How Do GLP-1 Pen Clicks Work?

Unlike reconstituted peptides drawn into an insulin syringe, GLP-1 injection pens like Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro and Zepbound are pre-filled devices that dispense medication in fixed increments called clicks. Each click of the dial or plunger delivers a precise, pre-measured amount of medication — no calculation or measurement required on your part.

The dose per click varies significantly by pen type and strength. The Ozempic 2mg pen delivers 0.25mg per click, while the Mounjaro 15mg pen delivers 1.5mg per click — six times as much. Never assume that one pen's click is equivalent to another pen's click. Always confirm the mg per click for your specific pen before use.

Why there is no "mg per click" column

Every label above says to set and confirm the dose with the dose counter, and warns against counting clicks. The Ozempic label states: "The dose selector clicks differently when turned forward or backward. Do not count the pen clicks." The Mounjaro instructions count exactly two clicks per injection — injection started, injection completed. Because the click rate is not uniform across the dial's travel, no manufacturer publishes a mg-per-click figure; any number found elsewhere was reverse-engineered from pen capacity, not officially documented.
